Most of my friends have a UTG and a few have a Marui, the UTG is a little less than TM, they tend to have more problems than TM. I don't think TM is so much better to be over $100 more than a UTG bet it is better.

I would have to disagree to a point. TM is well worth the money over a UTG. Performance wise they dont match up, but also think of 1)how do they perform over the long haul? and 2) Upgradeability. My first AEG was a stock TM thompson from over 3 years ago and it still shoots flawlessly today. Some peoples UTG's are already shitting the bed on them. Second is that there are a ton of upgrades that a TM can handle pretty easily. A spring a bushing upgrade in a TM goes a long way in that it can handle it pretty well. If you put an M120 in a UTG how long would it last? And how well would it perform with it in? Theres a huge difference.Originally Posted by Johnnyc

Like Brazzy and I said, UTG does tend to fall apart easier than TM. And I wouldn't know how upgrades work but I guess Brazzy does. My friends normally take care of theirs well so they last awhile but I would not advise getting a UTG unless its your first AEG or a backup AEG.

UTG makes TM clones, and they are just as upgradeable as a tm. I have a UTG AK and it functions flawlessly, and the UTG AK has more metal in it than the TM AK. The TM AK and the UTG AK have essentially the same internals just the UTG internals are chinese made and are equivalent to the Japanese made TM Internals. Now i'm not saying that the UTG doesn't have it's flaws. It has minor flaws like all guns, but don't say that they are complete crap just because they aren't $250+.
my UTG mp5 shit the bed after like 4 months of having it. Also the Mauri is stronger and more durable.
But when it comes to buying an TM for $200-240, it would be a better idea to spend the extra $50-75 and get a ICS or CA which is in an entirely diffrent league

I know this post sounds kind of harsh and since its in writing and only read, as you cant see facial expressions or hear the tone of voice. I assure you that this post has no malice whatsoever, and that it may sound harsh due to it making pretty bold statements, but thats only because its in writing and that I think that people should be aware of a few things when buying these guns. Just so everyone knows I have a smile on my face, and in a very calm mood. Just so theres no confusion when reading this.
Ceterus perubus. *Meaning all else remianing equal. I know all you UTG fans out there would love to say that those guns are on the level. But how long has the UTG AK been out? The TM AK is known for being a rock. the whole thing is metal with the exception of the stock and the foregrip. I know the UTG's stock and foregrip is not metal, so how does it have more metal? The TM has been around for years. There are guns that have been beaten up, for years with hundreds of thousands of rounds through them and stil fire flawlessly. I have a stock TM Thompson thats almost 4 years old, has seen a shit load of rounds through it, been beat to shit over the years, but has NEVER seen an airsmith and still fires perfectly. How long has the UTG AK been out on the market? The TM has been out for years and we still havent found a flaw in it, especially if you keep it stock. The UTG, I dont think has been out for a year yet and people have already seen them shit the bed.
They say it has upgradeability, or that its identicle. Take it to any airsmith. Even the people who sell them say that these guns are based on the TM model, but still arent put together the same. Coming from the people who are trying to market it thats saying something. As a business man I know that if you have to put out a cheaper product in order to compete you have to cut corners. Even though they essentially "stole" the TM model, and used their designs. That stil doesnt compensate for the cost effectiveness to sell them for almost 1/3 of the price. They have to cut corners somewhere else. And just where are they gonna do it? Mass producing them with fewer stops for quality control is a good way to start. How about buying shittier metals or materials. Its gonna come from somewhere.
How bout we make a deal. How bout you come back to us when your gun has hundreds of thousands of rounds through and and has seen some crazy shit over the course of a few years. The make an evaluation. Cuz as of right now there are no grounds for comparison as you have no idea how long that gun is gonna last, because they are ALL relatively new to the market. TM is tried and true, is UTG?
UTG is an excellent starter gun for airsofters who want to get a feel for the game. Im happy they are on the market as now kids who once couldnt afford to play are now all over the place. I am grateful for UTG in that making the game more affordable to some, really helps this game grow. So UTG is excellent for what it is. But you wont see too many, if any at all, experienced players wielding one on the field. There must be a reason for that.
