Ok so I have long been putting on buying a new vest, to get a decent amount of funds, but my little trigger finger isnt so little.......especially buying .28s. Anyways, I am looking to get a MOLLE vest for around $115, hopefully less ;).
So, I was wondering if some vets here on MAASF could help me pick out a vest/make one. I am a rifleman, 5'8 and would hope for something in OD. So, if people could give some links/advice in finding the right vest for me, that would be greatly appreciated.

are you looking to spend 115 or you just have 115?
if you want to be really cheap, you can purchase some basic ALICE gear, it is what i am currently running. it is very cheap and practical, but very effective.
if you dont want to spend a lot, crossdraws with the extra mag attachment is always a good choice. they are strong and durable.

this was my first vest. it is more of a chest rig but still has a lot of molle area. it has a spot to hold a hydro bladder. one of the key things it has are premade mag pouches. the 6 pouches can have more pouches put on them, making this one of the best vests for someone with a lot of mags.

the vest i am very interested is the interceptor. for about 90 dollars you get a full body of molle. very nice quality and it fits your price range. dont forget to buy pouches with the extra 25!

Buy MOLLE, buy Pantac if possible. For light airsofting, condor is ok.

I own that condor that was mentioned above.. its solid.
Don't know why I didn't post this before, but some observations. I classify MOLLE plate carriers (vests) (not chests rigs or anything else) as 3 things. Light, medium and heavy. Light being a MBSS or DBT FAPC, medium being something such as an AAV (known in airsoft as a MODII) or LBT 6094a, and heavy such as a CIRAS or Interceptor body armor. I classify them half by their amount of MOLLE space and half by their size. If you want alot of space, go with a heavier vest. Chances are you will only need a medium sized vest for starting out. I find that ALICE gear, though high speed, low drag, is good only if you want mags and water. MOLLE is a hundred times more adaptable and useful.

Thanks for the insight, and also providing links in your description ;).
In Feburary I bought a Condor MBSS and have been nothing but satisfied with it. I have never experienced any problem with ripping, tearing or anything of that sort and it's seen pretty heavy use. I'd definetly reccomend the vest being only $30 plus shipping. That should give you a good amount to drop on pouches (or .28s ;)). I'll take a picture of my setup tommorow so you'll have a reference if you're interested. Hope it helped.
I have that, technically its a BHI STIKE PC replica, still used by SEALs. Good vest, but not enough space if you want a good bit of utility. My AAV is my "EOD" vest whilst my MBSS is my high speed vest.

the OE tech (Condor) Modular chest rig has been my primary rig for three years now. Prior to that I had the BlackHawk version and was very satisfied with that. The quality between the two of them is marginal; the BHI is clearly better but the quality of the OE Tech is very suitable for hardcore airsoft.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v664/cobalt-blue/FT%20DRUM-%20OP-PP2/DSCF5786JPG.jpg
(I'm second to right)
Is my Pine Plains 2 loadout. OE-tech chest rig, real deal pouches (many of the knockoff pouches are not as sturdy in my opinion as the rig itself) and a lot of pantac gear, like the backpack and go-bag.
I paid I think 45 for the chest rig. If I had to do it all over again, I'd grab tech chest rig, 2) double mag shingles, and a triple mag shingle.
I would mount them like this- 2 slots of double mag shingle under the left arm, one open space of molle, the triple shingle in the center, one open strip of molle, and the other double shingle. The open strips of molle would all ow for vest flexibility, mounting positions for a modular pack if you were going that route, or a great place to throw pistol mags or other single slot items you want to have not stick out too much. Then tossing a fold out admin panel desk on top of the tri-panel for all your maps, small items, intel etc, a pair of smoke grenade pouches if you like tornado grenades on your shooting side, -or a pistol on your shooting side- and a utility pouch on your non shooting side for water bottle, red rag, etc. Mount m203 shells or pistol mags onto the utility pouch on your off side.
or, I'd recommend the Pantac weesatch clone. My other (coyote brown) chest rig setup is all pantac and I could not be happier with the quality and comfort. Going with the weesatch clone gives you plenty of real estate for molle pouches, 6 (or 8?) built in mag pouches, plus a built in hydrator- all of that with plenty of money left over.
On alice-
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v664/cobalt-blue/FGF%20062909/DSC_0104JPG.jpg
Alice is completely modular and useful. A simple 5$ buttpack and you can add "everything you need to survive for a week" to your list of "water and ammo."
grab an LBV, get those mag pouches off your belt and you can add even more stuff to it.
If you look, Legion (center) has a shit ton of stuff on his alice rig and it's still lightweight and breathable. Also, attaching molle pouches to alice gear is easy and fun. Sometimes you may need to secure them with cable ties, but you should be securing your alice gear with cable ties anyway.
also, if you look at my full multi-day ops rig, (below, though I don't use the drop legs anymore)
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v664/cobalt-blue/100_2726b.jpg
you'll see that the basic structure of the rig- my first line- is mostly ALICE gear- it's newer non issue stuff, but on many games, i rock just the backpack and my first line. The alice first line I use is enough to sustain most players through day long ops
*a triple mag pouch for rifle,
*two pistol mag pouches,
*a multi-tool,
*a dumper,
*NVG pouch,
*1-2 frag pouches for tornados
*bladetach pistol holster, lanyard, and pistol (w/light)
*a small maxpedition radio pouch that can attach to my chest rig, backpack, or belt a needed.
*HSGI lo profile suspenders (to fit under the chest rig and backpack)
ALICE FTW Y'ALL (seriously, the only important features of gear is that you have it, you train with it, you know how it works, and you make it work for your needs)
I'm compiling a "how to decide what gear is best for you to buy for airsoft" interactive PDF article for a class; I'm at 22 pages and have not even gotten to plate carriers and molle yet. When complete I will post it up.

Condor is good for both light and heavy airsofting. I have had mine for over 1 1/2 and have had absolutely no problems with it. Condor for the win.
I forgot to take pictures of my loadout from the game today, but this is basically how it is;
Front
- 8 M4 mags
- 2 9mm mags above the M4 mags
- CKRT M16 knife to right right of the 9mm mags (lost it today :'( )
- Name tape and team patch above the 9mm mags
Back
- Hydro
- 2 Shingle M4s/SR25 mags on the hydro
Edit; pictures (sorry about the shitty quality; poor lighting)

I hate to use this thread for a question, but what is better, open top, or velcro pouches (for mags)
personal preference.
open top single mag pouches of the tall type can be used without cord in most cases and worn either on the belt as a fast mag*, or on the chest with or without other pouches on top.
with cord upside down is how I wear mine on my back for the "oh shit" scenario or for teammates. Upside down so that when I draw it with my off hand it's already in a position to be properly loaded into the magwell**.
Pouches are great for holding more mags, though single mag pouches are available as well. I use a mix of traditional pouches reloading and fastmag style reload techniques depending on my loadout.
*don't underestimate the fast mag way of fighting. You don't need to purchase actual molded plastic fast mag pouches. If you wear 3 open top tall type mag pouches on your belt, you can draw from these rapidly to reload in a fight. When the action dies down, you refill those mag pouches with mags from your vest or pouches so that you are always drawing mags from your fastest position (and not fumbling with lids) with a dump pouch, you can load in 3 or less movements (arm down to dumper, grab/twist as needed and arm up to put mag into magwell.) add movements for moving rifle, eye balling magwell, pulling the paracord on the mag pouch if you use it, getting your mag strait so it will go into the magwell, or effing with pouch lids as you see fit.
you can still accomplish a fast reload with an open top pouch attached to your torso, but it can be awkward or slower given the angle your wrist has to bend to accommodate taking the mag out of the pouch.
** (IMO) you should always load your mags into your pouches in a way that allows you to load your rifle without looking. Never taking your eyes off the target or taking your barrel away from the fight allows for a faster return to combat efficacy.
I bought mine off of Airsoft Atlanta. When you go under tactical gear, scroll to the very bottom and it should be there.

im just trying to sell my p90. get an m4, then get a cheap loadout till christmas. Is it worth buying a 120-200$$ plate carrier?
molle vests that come with pouches (not as great in quality/material but they get the job done)

what does the unit "D" stand for, like ex: 600D
i think its denir or something like that APW would prolly know
D stands for denier, the strength and durability rating of the Nylon. 1000d Cordura is tough as nails. 600 is alright, buy condor. Get a PC or chest rig with built in mag pouches.

DBT FAPC
Bothers me everyday that I haven't been able to field my MC DBT Fast Attack yet. That thing is just so cute.
Moving on, any of the inexpensive OE Tech / Condor / Pantac chest rigs will be great for someone starting out, start with the basic pouches and add as you need to / learn what you will need. A lot of places sell them as a package with the basic pouches already attached (M4 Mag a General Pupose / Radio etc.)

Well, I'm exactly starting out, just trying to switch to an M4 loadout. But, if a condor/oe tech/ pantac rig will be just as durable, i don't see the point in spending a ton of money.

Ok now, this may sound stupid, but do you have to put in fake plates in plate carriers? Because I heard they are kinda uncomfortable and weird to have on if you dont.
cardboard cut to fit the shape works. 3 layers or so should be good.

Ok, so people do put stuff in? Maybe its just me, but it seems kinda pointless to have that......but I guess its more milsim?
The vest doesn't really feel weird without the plates, it will have the tendency to either ride up on you or ride down. It's a bit annoying but it's nothing a couple of pieces of cardboard or a book can't solve.
Yeah since it is meant to have plates it works best with plates. Not saying run out and buy some fake ones, just cut up the box it came in.

Ok, thanks for the advice. I just found a vest I was possibly gonna get--but low and behold.......its comes in ACU and black!! Yay!!!! Why not OD? Why? Why!?
Show me a link to it, some gear can be kryloned to your color of preference
Anything cordura can be krylon'ed. Just make sure you get Krylon camouflage. It'###### than just colors, it's ultraflat and non-reflective. Both are essential for anything painted for combat.
Expect to do it more than once though, and kiss comfort goodbye. It'll feel like you're wearing old canvas, and it'll come off with movement and time.
On the bright side, over ACU and such it gives it a sick battle worn look in no time flat.

Ok I believe I have found a good setup using MOLLE. Its in OD so I wont have to spray it and I will just put cardboard in for plates. Thanks for all the help everyone, I may post a bit more on here if I still have a few questions.
