Someone offered me a M40A1 for some of my stuff. I don't know much about its quality though. Is it better than the TM VSR10?

Yes, the TM's are kind of low in the totem pole of sniper rifles, so dont compare it to a TM. Not that they are bad, but they usually arent mentioned when discussing the best sniper rifles. The M40 are very solid. Real wood and all metal. Parts are not hard to get. It can be a very solid platform for a built sniper rifle. These are probably more comparable to the CA M24. Spring powered with the option of gas cylinder. But its a sniper rifle like any other. Out of the box its not worth its weight in poo. These things need to be "built" in order to acheive the standards of a true airsoft sniper ie. the TOLCOM quals

I think I like the Tanaka sniper rifles better anyway. Is the M40A1 compatable with the same stuff thats in a CA M24?

I said comparable not compatible. As in on the same level. As for the M700 keep in mind that they are gas powered and thats a whole other set of issues you are dealing with. Every day the gun will shoot differently. The first shot in the mag is different from last shot. When the temperature drops below 65 then you essentially have an over priced billy club, cuz its not going to shoot worth of piss. Performance wise spring is the way to go because every shot is the same. There are no outside variables such as temperature or barometric pressure. You really have to try all of them to see what is good and what is not. And not only have I tried all of them. I own all of them

Brazzy you must have more guns than ammo :D Yea I didn't do the deal. If I want a sniper I might go for the Tanaka or CA or an upgraded one.

If you go to the NEASG boards you'll find that Im one of the bigger advocates of the tanaka. Its a good gun. VERY well built. I mean rock solid. I was sole when I saw Beanie picking people oof from across the quarry at warwick with hers. But just plan on puting in a lil more time at the field before a game. You need to zero it out nearly everytime out. Thats the only down side to it. other than it not working in cold weather. ITs a great gun and dont underestimate the advantage of not having to yank back on the bolt. It allows you to stay concealed much better since there is NO bolt pull. As for the CA, it is also a rock solid gun. Bolt pull is a bitch, but if you have it zeroed you can bet your sweet ass it will hit the same place every time. NEASG has some very experiecned snipers. Listen to wha they say. Dont use shit bbs. Use .43g or .36g (I use .43) You keep those guns clean and zeroed and you can be a menace. But it take a ton of patience and some good concealment techniques. See the TOLsnipe manual and the US army manual.
But I guarantee you will see the M24 and the M700 this summer.

Thanks Brazzy, maybe I'll see if I can get a Tanaka this summer some time. If there is no bolt how do you cock it? Its spring powered right?
Well if you're not takeing the Sp m40 hook me up with him or his ad. Because with some work that is a kick ass gun.

I said there is no bolt pull. It is a gas rifle. Which is why it has so many issues. Gases are affected by the weather which makes it inconsistent. Yes there is a bolt, but it is not powered by a spring so there is no resistance when you pull on it. Which is a good thing. The bad thing is that every shot is going to be a lil different.
Tanaka m700= gas powered
Classic Army M24= spring powered
Springs are more consistent but it take a lil muscle to pull back the bolt
Gas is very inconsistent, but it takes no effort to pull on the bolt.
The cool thing is that the CA m24 and SP M40 can both be modified to use gas instead of spring.

Well I like the more consistant ones but gas is easier and faster to fire. hmm In your opinion whats the best (or one of the best) spring snipers?

Maruzen Type 96
Classic Army M24
SP M40
Maruzen APS2
Some more that are OK
TM VSR10
The Tanaka is probably the best gas powered rifle out there
When you have a rifle that can put the bb's on the cross hair from 60-100 yards away, you shouldnt need a second shot. So a gun that cycles faster really isnt necesary. If someone gets too close to you you shouldnt use your rifle, you should have someone o something there to bail you out like a small AEG or a spotter with a nice DM rifle like an upgraded M14/M21
Personally I rock the M24. Rock solid gun all metal and realistic stock. Its upgraded to 500fps with an illuminated rangefinder scope. Ask Vegas what this thing is capable of. LASERBEAMS

Thanks, I'm liking the Maruzen and CA snipers. I'll look into them this summer for sure
Yes... M21 Can't wait for my M-14 to get here. Also dont forget if you have an upgraded spring rifle not only is the bolt hard to cycle but the trigger pull is GRATELY increased. Also to just add to brazzys comment, the Maruzen Type 96 hand's down is THE spring sniper to have. to bad it's so pricey just for a stock one.

If your dropping a ton of money into a rifle anyway why not throw in the 'zero trigger'
O and dont forget the look! This game is all about the looks. We all saw a war movie and liked it a lil too much so make sure your rifle matches the look you want. The M700 is used by police. The M40 is specially made for the Marines. The M24 is for the US Army. The L96 is for the Brits.

whts a "zero trigger" ?
I forgot about the Zero. I forget how it work's but it lighten's the trigger pull when your gun hold's say... an m230 in it. when the spring is compressed all the way it get's stuck on a latch that is connected to the trigger. When this happen's it put's tension on the latch witch result's in a heavier trigger pull (Somethimes in excess of 5-10 lb's) the Zero trigger system releives this tention somehow... I just can't remember for the life of me.

Heres a quick rundown of what is expected of a good sniper rifle. Im gonna use the example of what I did, cuz Im the most familiar with it.
CA M24 military version : 375
Tightbore inner barrel: * *60
Scope: * * * * * * * * * * * * 100
Advanced Cylinder set: * 110
3 extra mags: * * * * * * * *75
zero trigger (optional): * 150
Then gear
Ghillie: * * * * * * * * * * * * *150
Back up weapon: * * * * * 100 at the very least
.43 g bb's: * * * * * * * * * *25
Face paint + rifle ghillie: * 25 (for just burlap wrap)
A zero triiger is a trigger unti that allows for easy trigger pull. On an upgraded rifle the trigger is hard to pull. This unit makes it easier. I dont have a problem with the trigger pull so I didnt buy one YET. I keep it lubed up pretty good so its not too bad...same for the bolt pull. Keeping it clean and lubed seems to help.

hmm looks like ill be getting the CA M24 when I get a sniper ;D. Brazzy your M24 is sick, well the paint job is at least ::) :)
I'll tell you this much... The SP M40a1 that he was selling is the sh!t.
about 400Fps with .43's and a straight shot for about 120 yards
and for 80 bucks it was a steal.

If I get a sniper anytime soon I'd get either the Maruzen Type96 or the Tanaka M700 A.I.C.S. Something about the AWP is just so damn nice....
If your dropping a ton of money into a rifle anyway why not throw in the 'zero trigger'

The M700, M24 and the M40 all start their lives as the same base gun... The Remington 700. AMU builds the M24 and USMC Quantico build the m40, but both are based on a Remington 700.
I want to see an airsoft version of the CheyTac... If the standoff for the AS version were comparable to real steel then this gun would have an engagement range out to 150 yards.
Yeah the real steel one is the shit and that .408 round can do some long range damage
