Overview- The UMG (Hk UMP) is a very effective CQB rifle. The UMG gives an airsofter a break from the MP5, but also keeps the style crazy fittings of an Hk SMG without sacrificing performance. With a price tag ranging typically around $240, it is well worth it. The UMG comes with an ABS body and four metal rails. Three rails for foreword mounting of accessories, and one optic rail. It comes with a metal rear sight and a meal front sight, as well as an Hk style charging handle and a folding stock.
Externals- The UMG is constructed with a rigid yet flexible ABS plastic. The UMG only has strait mags, versus the 9mm curved mags similar to the MP5s. I was somewhat disappointed with the UMG’s tendency to scratch. The plastic is rather soft, and there were still some casting imperfections that can be fixed with a modeling knife if it bothers the user. The UMG has a metal outer barrel that is VERY sturdy. The UMG has an upper and lower receiver design that is quick to take apart (see “dis assembly”). There is a button that must be pressed on the left side of the gun to fold out or lock strait back. The stock is fold-able, to the right side of the body and with a little nudge upward; it locks out on a tab on the right side of the body next to the ejection port. The stock has a rubber cheek press and a rubber stock pad which keeps the stock very sturdy on your shoulder. The UMG is VERY comfortable to hold. Though the UMG comes with a slap stock, DO NOT HK SLAP. There is a good chance that the handle will break off.
Internals- G&G did a wonderful job with the internals to the GB, hop up and barrel. It comes with a 6.04mm inner barrel with a length of 205mm. Although the barrel is short, with good bucking it goes FAR. The hop-up unit is much more stable than the M4 hop-up. As for the GB, there was about ~15,000 put through it before the air seal was gone. As it begun to fade away I was getting 230fps. With the way that the GB is installed, it is very easy to damage the wiring. It comes with a 25,000rpm high-torque motor.
Shooting- The UMG usually spits out about 15-17 rps with a 9.6 2000mah battery. You should be able to hit out at about 150 feet at the very most with the hop perfect.
Hop-Up Accessibility- If you have made this far without breaking the charging handle off, you’re in good shape. By pulling back the charging handle, the ejection port opens and allows the used to access the hop up. By pushing on the bolt catch on the left side of the gun (similar looking to an M4s) it catches the port cover and holds it back allowing the user to replace the charging handle back to firing position while also keeping the port open.
Sights- The sights on the UMG are ok. There are two different recticals to choose from but are somewhat low. By adjusting a screw, the sight can be adjusted vertically.
Adaptability- The UMG has many different cool looks due to the four picatinny rails. A must is a VFG and also some type of optic. Anything with a picatinny rail mount can be put on. Also, several airsoft shops carry a 9.6v battery for it. It is a custom battery, and is offered in several different cell types. My personal favorite is Intellect.
What’s Inside Now- After the airseal was gone I decided to get a whole new piston head in it. I have a guarder head on now and bearings for increased ROF. Soon enough I plan on putting in all high-speed sets. I have Guarder bucking in it as well, it works wonders!
Overall
Build Quality-7/10
Performance-8/10
Looks-9/10 (Gotta have a can)
Adaptability-9/10
Reliability-9/10
Quality of Stock Parts-8/10
Upgrades-LOTS
Being a harsh grader, this receives an ~85% overall. What it lacks is the quality of small things like the charging handle and the not so good bucking. But also because it is almost impossible to change any features to the body itself, it is an add-on only type gun. I would recommend this airsoft gun to any airsofter who is looking for a compact gun, without sacrificing performance or looks. Basically...ANYONE!
*The G&G UMG that I received was second hand and came with a broken slap stick.
