The second I saw this headline, I knew I was going to see a video that would make my night,

I give him credit for dodging it, I wonder if he knows what really just transpired though rofl

http://www.comcast.net/data/fan/html/popup.html?v=964144513&pl=964349360.xml&plc=964349360&launchpoint=Cover&cid=fancover&attr=default_headline&config=/config/common/fan/default.xml

If that doesnt work, Im sure youtube will have a junky version of the vid soon, and Fox will be running 24 hour shoe watch alerts.

I managed to translate some of the Iraqi shoe-assasin's rant! I believe he was shouting "Don't 'tase me bro!" when they brought him down. :p

what kind of assassin was that guy? whats he supposed to accomplish with a shoe?... unless it was razor bladed... probably should have thrown a hat... [;)]

By rights the secrect service should have shot the man dead on the spot. They know about the bombs in shoes, it could have had a bomb in it. They didnt do there job.

Maestro

I'm sure they did a security check, it's pretty clear that there wasn't a bomb in his shoes, so they would have no reason to take his shoes. And what he was shouting was "this is a farewell kiss you dog!" The shoe thing is particularly interesting because hitting someone with your shoes is a pretty big insult in Arab culture. Like, for example, there are a lot of pictures of Iraqis hitting the statue of Saddam Hussein after it was toppled over by American troops. Also intriguing is that the person who threw the shoes was a very well known and respected member of the press in Iraq. Dude's my hero.

In the middle east, hitting someone with a shoe, or stepping on them is one of the highest insults one can bestow on another. Kinda like giving the finger only worse. Notice how when the Saddam statue was knocked down and dragged through the streets, the people swarmed it and hit it with their shoes.

On another note, the flying shoe alert level for today is: orange

I like the fact that ol Georgie smiled as he dodged the shoe. Look carefully and you'll see it.

If I remember correctly the shoe thrower was an angry Iraqi journalist. He didn't throw the shoe to try and kill Bush, but as a statement showing his dissatisfaction for what Bush did to Iraq.

Well I'm sad everyone decided to get all serious, I kinda hoped everyone being somewhat knowledgeable knew that what he did was the biggest insult he could lunge at the Bush. However since im an idiot, more serious shtuff, theres actually a split in Iraq right now, Pro throwing shoes at Bush, Con throwing shoes at Bush WHILE their own PM is present (still pro throwing shoes at Bush in general), a lot of Iraqis feel the reporter embarassed the PM.

Trowing shoes= More epic than IEDs. The insurgents should stick shoes.

SACSlym

Seriously, it wouldnt hurt anyone, except Egos, and either wed ban shoes, or just give up.

bag32
12-15-2008, 04:59 PM
on a more serious note, yes, i definitely heard it was a big insult, and it didnt exactly make Iraq look good.
Im not credible in these areas, but from what I have seen, the Iraq govt. is not widely accepted, or effective, but it is an improvement. and it has been obvious that most Iraqis disapprove of bush, and even America in general, not to say they do not have a reason...

Tom Hogan
12-15-2008, 05:00 PM
It probably would help their cause too. Americans would get fed up with all the shoes being thrown, and some guy would finally shoot a shoe thrower. That would lead to an investigation, and a movie by Michael Moore. That would lead to international anger at America.

My spidy senses are tingling... I sense political discussion.

I say this thread turns into a "what is your favorite flavor ice cream discussion."

and a movie by Michael Moore"

followed by a thriller starring tom cruise in which, "the shoe will be thrown by sundown, we only have 6 hours...."

In reality, this was Bush's keynote moment where he got to stand in front of Iraqi citizens for the last time as President, noting his unique mark in their history. Im glad someone noted directly to him how well recieved his mark is.

maybe we should put the guns down and beat each other with shoes. hell if we are lucky maybe we can go to war with pillows and have world war pillow fights.

Tom Hogan

People are going to kill each other anyways. I'd much rather get shot to death than killed by a pillow.

Hmm, i wonder if Bush ever gave the man his shoe back, looked expensive. Bush could have been a real ass and signed it and then gave it back. Or start another bombing campaign but im on board with the whole shoe war. Im wearin cleats

I love how brave that guy was when Saddam was in power. Too bad Saddam is gone, much better for Iraq than the current government and a nicer, smarter guy than Bush.
