View Full Version : New Gear
hey guys i was woundering if i should buy a
Special Force 1000 Denier Nylon Oxford CrossDraw Vest.(Woodland) from Evike.com for about $40 i dont know if its a good buy. i need to order a vest under $50 in the next few days, so please help me out.
thanks
I'd get something you'll probably be happier with in the long run.
A lot of people started with THIS (http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/MOLLE137-1.html), myself included. For the price range, can't really go wrong. Good enough quality, holds ammo and water to start with, you can just add more pouches when you have more money.

well why not just get the vest with the pistol holster and the mag pouches, ect. allready in for the same price, and this 1 is made of breathable nylon, and that looksa thick, and heavy. thanks tho for the suggestion!
Well, the reason I say to avoid the crossdraw, and I'm sure plenty of people will tell you the same thing, is because they're unmodular, unhelpful, and you're going to spend the money for something better down the road anyway, so you might as well drop it now.
First off, Crossdraws usually end up being peoples first vests because of the price and the quantity of which flood the airsoft market. You may notice that few, if any players who have been in the sport for a long time use crossdraw vests. Plenty use fixed-pouch vests, but crossdraws have a few major flaws in design.
The first and foremost, you're sacrificing the ability to adapt your gear to your playing style, your specific role, etc. The rig you're interested in will allow you to carry 3-6 mags, depending on how well it's made, a sidearm, 4 pistol mags or similar sized items, a small radio and whatever you can fit in the limited GP space. The pouch placement is poor any way you look at it.
For instance, the mags are on your strong side, ie, the hand you're holding your rifle with, even though the rest of the vest is designed for rightys (ie, holster, shoulder). It's going to be cumbersome, and take longer for you to draw mags from that side, and that's the only place mags are going to be, since the pouches are fixed. The crossdraw holsters are generally slow to draw, if you're left handed you're also out of luck. The GP space is limited, but overall I'm guessing for a light kit it'll work. You'll have you buy your own hydration carrier.
I'd recommend that you take some time and look at other vests, consider raising your budget, and look at a broader spectrum of gear than what Evike offers, if you haven't already.
If I were you I would listen to rigs. That MOLLE vest is a great buy, because it is of good quality for a very low price. That vest will also help your loadout look more milsim and better. I would recommend not to get a crossdraw vest.

I have a crossdraw that suits me for now because I have highcaps and I rarely switch mags. But I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get screwed when I buy midcaps.

I would look on ebay in the stores. You can get a molle platecarrier with a decent amount of pouches for only $30. But since its coming from australia, the shipping is $30 also. http://cgi.ebay.com/USMC-NAVY-MOD-MOLLE-Full-Tactical-Assault-Vest-VT-57-OD_W0QQitemZ290249969015QQihZ019QQcategoryZ36077QQ ssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
they come in any color

Ehobbyasia is in australia... Lol. Hong Kong.
My first vest was from ehobbyasia. Was something like THIS (http://cgi.ebay.com/CQB-Navy-Seal-LBV-Modular-Tactical-MOD-Vest-VT-11-OD_W0QQitemZ270255311557QQihZ017QQcategoryZ588QQtc ZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262). The quality was good, held up a long time, and is still working... but I needed to make the switch to molle. The vest was just... inhibiting for lack of a better word.
you should get german web gear. i just got some, looks goofy but its wicked comfortable. it sells for 20 bucks with 3 packs, cant beat it.

i went to order, and it said it was coming from australia
listen to rigs the geardo. go MOLLE. you can probably find one used. the first vest Rigs linked from cheaperthandirt.com is good because it has 6 mag pouches built into it already but still has MOLLE on it

-and a hydration pouch on the back. Drop another $10 and you can get a 2.5 liter bladder from CTD. Both the vest and the bladder are Condor brand.
well you see im goanna have the crossdraw, and i have mod pouches for a nother just vest made out of straps and a belt to hold extra pouches and the mag pouches on te crozzdraw are pretty good placement for a right handed player... im goanna get a mod vest and buy some pouches...
and i bought a very small about 1.8 liter non brand camel back and i wear it under my vest. it works cuz i dont drink much

I have this one.
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=28_172&products_id=994
for $18 bucks. its the best money i have spent so far in airsoft.
I went on ehobby and bougth a hydro backpack OD color to match and iam allset. Holds 6 m4 mags up front and 3 in the side pockets. its light, easy to reach stuf, and durable.
But to each thier own. I like the look of merc or freedom fighter then striaght millitary.

If I were you I'd try some Condor MOLLE or some Ehobby MOLLE gear. It's cheap and hopefully will last until you can get more funds.

I ordered a crossdraw but I'm already regretting it. The next thing on my list to get is a new plate carrier or LBV. Can't beat molle...

LBV's are realllly nice and comfortable, but like the cross draw they limit your ability to adapt to your roll you can only add web gear to the web belt which isnt sooo bad but i would much rather have gotten a molle vest.
Or http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=89&products_id=3149
But i highly recommend you get the MOLLE rig that was linked earlier, i wish i did.
Not gonna lie, my next rig will probably be an LBV... I've seen some pretty sick setups done with them.
Examples you say? Why of course!
Epic (http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p210/TLDRigs/?action=view¤t=iifssetuprz8.jpg), Epic (http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p210/TLDRigs/?action=view¤t=IMG_0349.jpg), and Epic (http://s129.photobucket.com/albums/p210/TLDRigs/?action=view¤t=DSC01534.jpg).
Oldschool load bearing kits like those are lightweight, practical, and if done right, look... well... epic. Plus, if you can't fit everything you need for a day of airsoft on a kit like that, you're carrying too much.

The four chest pouches on an LBV Fit 1 m4 mag each. but if you can get some of the old school m16 web gear puches that would look sick. I absolutely love my LBV, its one of the most comfortable vests i have ever worn.

Molle PC or Rig all the way baby! Like everyone is saying arrange your gear for you and your event. I've seen people with the same PC and pouches but because ones a Grenadier and the other is a saw gunner they look and function totally different. Say for your feeling ambitious this year and want to rock a 203 on your M4…No worries hump as many 40 mike-mikes around on your vest as you want. And half way thru the year you notice that not being able to fire 203 in Ghost Town is really putting a damper on your social life you drop the 203 and pick up a MP5 just add that size mag pouches to your vest and continue your mission of making people find their red rags and saying "Hit". Keep in mind in the future I ditch my vest and pick up another I can transfer all my pouches over to the next and keep the same configuration I had with the last vest.

I ended up getting this as my second vest:
http://www.skdtac.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=100
It's a massive step up from the OE Crossdraw that I got, and in terms of usefulness and reliability you really can't beat Mil-spec. The weesatch is meant to fit over interceptor mk2 armor. It's got molle and everything, and the integral pouches fit about everything you need, and a ton of shit you don't.

Nice vest like it alot way to keep your options open with the Molle.
It is a nice vest, but a little out of budget for me. I still like that Cheeper than dirt molle vest for likr $50-$60, and thoese $70 m4 chest rigs i posted... 1 of which has full molle around the mag pouches, and the rest of the vest

I second both Rig's suggestion- because it has mag pouches built right in on day one so no further pouches need be bought immediately (a slim radio and a pistol will fit in some of the pouches that go unused)- and it is also not heavy at all it is quite light and comfortable-
and Yota's advice. That is a great vlaue and holds what you need, from pistol mags, shells, grenades, rifle mags, radio, maps, extra snacks etc. a canteen on a belt and you got all you need for any field.
otherwise once the $$$ rolls in, the jump to a full modular (ALICE is modular but not as versatile as MOLLE) rig can be a worthy investment, and does not have to be as expensive as possible; buying smart can keep it reasonable.
I like this vest for m4 mags, with molle front. i may go with this: https://www.blackhawk.com/product1.asp?P=55CR01BK
Or this eagle...: http://www.optactical.com/noname34.html

I'd go for the Eagle.
Ok. just woundering about the Blackhawk vest because its in my price range, and it has molle front.

stop wasting our time and buy something already
just go out and buy some cheap LBV, or better yet, go out and buy a.l.i.c.e gear
the web belt
mag pouches
butt pouch
canteen pouches
suspenders
there you go
good package for a decent price.

I most put up a review of my LBV setup, check it out when i do.
Anyways, i second what sandman says. A.L.I.C.E set is all you really need.
