Im bored so I feel like sharing some of my school work, nothing extremely amazing, not to mention the forced 72 PPI kills how detailed these are (supposed to be 300 PPI and 5000x3000 range) but what the hell, pictures ho!

Is that a lanyard hole in the flat top wrist remote?
That would be a sick idea, as I could chain it to my bedside table and never loose the remote again.

I mean how many times have you been trying to get your groove on with an attractive young lady and then all of a sudden Law and Order SVU comes on the TV . . .
And you can't find the remote by just reaching over to the table without any serious distraction.
Only two ways to play that, risk stopping to find the damn remote, possibly a highly risky change of pace. Or, let it ride and cross your fingers and toes this ones not about anything to due with broken glass bottles and orifices where said broken bottles should never under any circumstances be anywhere near.

notably none of this stuff is actually designed for any specific purpose, just made from quick doodle sketches and rendered in illustrator and photoshop for assignments.
yeah I wanted a wrist strap or something to keep it from getting too far, I hate it when my remote runs away.
lol make it with a Wii interface!
i think the trains should be a remote that goes around the room makeing sounds.

Finished this up today, we had to take a real object and render it, i took some artistic license with it, but as it stands I know my professor is stuck in giving me B/B+'s so I didnt feel like dicking around for another 4 hours making it perfect.
First one is my render, second is the original picture.

Ok kiddies, lets review what raped my free time for 5 weeks. So the assignment was to create a door handle based on an environment, IE where does this door go? where are you coming from? who is using it? and so on. Basically people were expected to be like, Hey so this guy in his 30s with 2 kids likes to go down the basement and watch movies by himself, so this door handle is for him, and its designed, blah blah blah (not an actual concept, kids ideas were 50/50 split on good ideas and boring ideas / not well thought out.) Overall the results of the program were though FUCKING INCREDIBLE, and I wish I had pictures of some of them.
The end results aside, I went into the project feeling like I didnt want to do just the same old door handle leading into X room of Ys house, so I surprised everyone when I said it would be in a movie, none of them actually thought I was going to do this, so I worked secretly on a lot of the material im about to show you.
Image Board - We use images to relate our ideas, an image board shows images of inspiration.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/SACSlym/HandleProject/PortalDoorwayless.jpg
Concept Board (Not assigned I made it up) shows 50 of the handle concepts I had.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/SACSlym/HandleProject/DoorHandleConcepts.jpg
Final Design Drawings (notably I purposefully didn't make the render very good, the kids in my studio class haven't learned PS yet, so I didn't feel I needed to spend more than an hour making it)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/SACSlym/HandleProject/Explodedview2.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v161/SACSlym/HandleProject/HandleRenderFLAT.jpg
And finally the secret portion of my project, stuff that I made up and wasnt assigned, the enviromnent drawings, and storyboard.

But then when I thought about it, when we will be making presentations, talking about a movie and only having story boards limited to 11x17 will be hard to follow, so thats when I made the mini movie, that I swear to god, not only got the entire room excited (VERY RARE), but left my professor in awe. Notably the movie is nothing miraculous, but when you are sitting in a room where all the people have been talking are door handles for the past 2 hours, none of you have slept in 3 days, nor have you eaten, this shit is pretty incredible lol. Granted it also helped that I know how to talk in a presentation and sort of built them up for the movie (without telling them I had one, so they were all kinda wishing they could see it subconsciously)
Movie
http://files.filefront.com/HandleStoryavi/;12643777;/fileinfo.html
PS: Sorry I failed to mention these parts, but yes, we all built doors and door handles, we all made foam models, which led to wood models, which were aluminum cast, and then we made a final wood model again, painted it, and mounted it on the door, functionally. AKA you turn my door handle and it will open the door.

Is that the Indiana Jones warehouse?
SACSlym
12-14-2008, 11:47 PM
Not in any of the images, that particular warehouse was too well kept and lighted for it to be a direct inspiration. In reality, the location came after my initial choice which was the lighting, I wanted an environment that would allow me powerful outside light to come in and create a White Black contrast along the center walkway of it, via the higher up windows youd generally see in one. Combined with being able to see the light travel, I thought if it was unkept there would be enough dust to show it.
For a good idea of what Im describing look at the Image board and look at the warehouse image, that particular beam of light was what i was going for, at least in my head.

Been hammering on these for the past few weeks, not non stop, but every few nights spending a couple of hours on them. Notably I can do a better job if I wanted to, but usually on a singular render, not 3 at the same time.
Assignment was to render 3 handheld consoles, I decided to try and design some stuff for girls, mainly because ive never tried it before, and wanted to see if I could accomplish said task without using ponies, flowers, or pink, I was successful on the pony front.
One last note, a lot of the quality is lost in these small versions, keep in mind the actual size of these images is supposed to be 5100x3300

Its major tool hasnt been added yet but you are correct in both respects, its a giant road clearing vehicle, at the front it rips up two lanes of road, that material is taken onto a conveyor belt to the back where 6 grinders grind the asphalt and release it in two trails behind it.
Technically its a group project with other people doing the conveyor belt, cockpit, wheels, etc, but most of them havent been doing anything, so I started taking liberties with details and started adding my own tools/mechanization for fun.

So some of you may be familiar with the toy I made a few years back called the Desert Raider, or better known as battle tank. Well as I had imagined it awhile back, it actually was apart of the Battle Tank series, which would be a different tanks for different roles and climates. Now in my spare time and purely for fun I have gone onto to make more battle tanks in Rhino, first starting with the desert series, next series will be decided at a later date.

Sacs, that's ill. Seriously, good work man, you make some pretty cool stuff.
Is the machine used for the MAASF logo just for plastics, or could you apply it to other mediums?

All mediums, so yes, expect some really cool merch in the next few months ;)
Excellent work SACs! I love the 3D printers, a very cool gadget.
I am glad to see Wentworth has taught you well ... hopefully it will do the same for me.
Once again great work.

All depends on the program, in ours surviving is the one thing you learn, i mean they don't teach you, either you just learn it or die.
If your doing something like architecture or construction management or computer science, don't worry, those majors are actual treated well by the administration.
Phew, Architecture is what I am going for.
Well anyways not to clutter the thread to much nice work there SACs it is really impressive.
