hi, recently at the last maasf event in dartmouth, there was a guy there who had a mp5 and a m249 both with lipo upgrades. I was wondering what else I would need to upgrade my classic army m15 to beable to handle the power? I need a new gear box any ways so I don't have a problem dishing out some cash for a good gear box, I want somthing that will last. My gun currently has an sp130 spring, tight bore barrel, stock gears and I think thats it. What would you probably suggest doing to be able to handle this upgrade? thanks

metal bushings, and steel gears prolly are good. But Sac can tell for sure...or rat or Iceman or Hellboy...any of them longtime crazzy players ;D

The classis army gears are pretty good and should be able to take the lipoly, id recomend upgrading the spring guide and the piston

i just had my m249 upraded, and the li poly aready broke my stock gears. so i sujest some stronge ass gears. but i think the CA gears are alittle better than stars gears. so im now replaceing my gears with my my airsoft elite mp5 gears. i hope that can last a bit longer. lol

rambo the tension from the m120 and the tightbore barrel broke your gears the lipoly is only a minor factor

the tightbore has no effect, but the lipol can be stressful if the gun isnt reinforced

Why do you want a lipo? Do you need 12 volts in your application?

Some things you may want to think about.

Lipo’s require a special charger – Good ones cost $.
Lipo cells are more sensitive to abuse and fail easier. If they drop below 3 vts per cell you can destroy the pack. At 9 volts your gun in most cases will still turn so you wont even know your killing the pack
Can you use a 10.8? for your application. nicad or nimh are much more stable and forgiving
Lipo’s are smaller than other packs – good for space issues.
Are you ready to replace motors frequently (every 6 months or so)

Bottom line a LIPO is an option not an upgrade. It is good when you have space constraints or need to deliver 11-12 volts in your application. The cost is the charger and motor fatigue

Oh and unless it jams a barrel upgrade will almost never lead to gun fatigue

I have been an avid flyer of r/c planes for the past 3 years now, and all of my electric planes take lipo batterys, so last year I purchased a couple hundred dollar charger, somthing that would handle the larger lipo for my larger planes (6 cell lipo). I was planning on putting in a systema m120 gear box, all assembled. I need new gears and a gear box so I just decided to do it right. I would think that the systema would be able to handle it fine.

yea, that gearbox would handle it fine, but a 10.8 or even a 9.6 will do the job fine
