View Full Version : G&G UMP (UMG) Upgrade Help?

Later this week I'm purchasing a G&G UMG to act as a CQB/Backup weapon alongside my G36 (and as another piece of my slowly growing HK Collection). Anyhow, I've done a lot of reading on how its best to replace the tappet plate and bushings with metal ones, as it comes stock with not-so-durable plastic equivalents. The gun is also pre-owned, so I'm gonna be opening it up to clean it anyways.
Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone knew how to properly dissassemble/install new brearings/tappet plate and then properly reassemble the UMG. My area of expertise is more with gas guns, and aside from watching one of my friends switch out the gears on my Airsoft Elite MP5, I haven't had any experience with dissassembling Gearboxes. Anything you know could be helpful.
Thanks!

UMP gearbox is v3. Watch the Version 3 mechbox upgrade video. I'm not sure how to disassemble, but I bet if you google it, you will find a thread or article on how to dissemble a UMP seeing how they are growing in popularity.

Mechbox has good videos to give you an idea, but I would read as you can about the Version 3 mechbox before opening it up. If you live near Belcherstown you can bring it to Federal Airsoft. Check out the site for address. They will upgrade it professionally for $15 bucks I think.

i had 2 and i never had a problem with the tappet plate and ive been in and out of them alot
i can tell you all about them and if you want i can teach you or i can do the upgrades for you im pretty reasonable with my prices
takeing it apart is pretty easy
first you unscrew the middle screw on the bottom of the pistol grip
then you remove the pin from the body near the selector switch (theres fake ones too)
then you take out the front body pin then the rear body pin near the folding stock
(if you lock the bolt back now it may make it eaiser for you)
now you push the hop up unit foward and rock the upper receiver nose down a bit (watch those wires!!!!!)
and the upper receiver will come right off
now switch it to semi auto(i think) and rip the gearbox out of the body strait up (pulling the trigger wont help you accomplish this it will meke it go back in)
there you go the gearbox is out of the gun
words of warning the trigger is a huge pain to put back in you may want to throw the gearbox other than the trigger its pretty much the same layout as the normal v3 gearbox
hope this helped pm me if you want me to do the work

Thanks a lot!
Not entirely sure if I'll still get it, but my HK collection's gonna need one sooner or later (then again, I'm gonna need college money sooner or later as well). Though I've already bought my MP7 as a secondary, having something a little more powerful/accurate might be nice...
